In July 2022, San Joaquin County Public Health Services (PHS) launched the Health Equity webpage, “Moving Together Towards Health Equity,” housed within its department website. The webpage features:
- An overview of health and racial equity
- Why addressing health disparities is a priority in San Joaquin County
- Resources and actions that can be taken to promote health equity
The goals of the webpage are to raise awareness about health inequity and share how PHS is collaborating with community partners to advance health equity. The webpage includes data, reports, and publications that highlight the county’s greatest health needs and how they are being address, including links to the San Joaquin County Community Health Needs Assessment and Priority Neighborhood Profiles.
The website also offers the opportunity to explore the community’s perspective on “social inequity.” Some responses from the community include:
“The first thing I think of is social economic factors, pollution, higher mortality rate. Those living below federal poverty level.”
"Persons economically challenged. Disenfranchised due to gender, age, sexual orientation, race, religion and class."
PHS will continue to improve the webpage as their health equity work evolves over time. If you have any questions about the webpage, please contact Sterling Hill, Public Health Educator.
